Dulce de Leche or Arequipe Bars

Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 ½ cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup butter very cold, cut into small pieces
- 1 ½ cups arequipe or dulce de leche
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, oats, salt, brown sugar and cold butter. Mix until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.

Press half of the crumb mixture into a buttered small rectangular baking pan to form an even layer.

Spread the arequipe or dulce de leche evenly over the base, then sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture on top and press lightly.

Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is light golden brown.

Allow to cool slightly, then cut into bars while still in the pan. Gently lift the bars out to serve.
