Ingredients

 

  • 1 ¾ cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 ½ cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup butter very cold, cut into small pieces
  • 1 ½ cups arequipe or dulce de leche

Instructions

 

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, oats, salt, brown sugar and cold butter. Mix until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
  • Press half of the crumb mixture into a buttered small rectangular baking pan to form an even layer.
  • Spread the arequipe or dulce de leche evenly over the base, then sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture on top and press lightly.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is light golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly, then cut into bars while still in the pan. Gently lift the bars out to serve.
