In January of this year I prepared a batch of cupcakes for close friends who were expecting their first child. Since then they have welcomed a healthy baby girl, and today, at 100 days old, she has inspired this short account of her celebration. The images show the joyful details from that day: colorful cupcakes, a small tri-color cake made just for the baby, and family gathered to mark this milestone.
Hello, I’m Kiernen. I recently turned 100 days and my family marked the occasion with a long celebration that lasted most of the day. Babies sleep a lot—indeed I do—so I slept through a good portion of the event. Rest and regular feeding are how I grow right now, so this will be a brief note while I’m following my strict feed-and-sleep routine.
The story of my arrival was shared with family in a playful birth announcement my parents wrote while they were still exhausted. To summarize: it was an eventful journey to the hospital. There was a bit of traffic and a tense moment when the police stopped them, a calm exchange that let them continue without a ticket, and the frantic realization that one of my parents had forgotten a change of clothes but had packed a kettle instead. When they reached the hospital my mother was already fully dilated. After many hours of effort and a stubborn baby who delayed the final push, I finally made my entrance into the world and joined my family four days later.
Thinking about that day still makes me yawn—in a good way. One hundred days on, the house was full of faces, laughter, and an abundance of food. Even though I’m not ready for solid treats, the cakes and cupcakes were definitely the stars of the celebration for everyone else. The main cake, a small layered confection made specially for me, had a soft sponge streaked with vanilla beans and bright, cheerful colors inside that delighted the guests.
The gathering included lots of traditional dishes, plenty of conversation, and many affectionate moments as relatives and friends took turns holding me and offering their blessings. Cupcakes were served to guests, and the bespoke tri-color cake, when sliced, revealed its soft, vanilla-speckled interior—an especially pretty surprise that drew smiles and delighted exclamations from everyone.
Now it’s nearly nap time again, but I wanted to share a little of the day while the memories are fresh. I expect to be back with more updates as I grow and discover new things.
